Pilgrim Ponderings: January
Is it just us, or does Hope seem to be springing up everywhere these days?
In Scripture, in song, in spiritual reading –
in the resilience of children, in the gentleness of elders, in the humdrum miracles of everyday encounters –
in the wintry-waiting Earth –
There’s a renewed sense of sureness, of waiting for, of expecting together, of… Hope.
No, we know that it is not “just us”. Rather, the grace of this past Jubilee Year of Hope has truly touched…everything! And though jubilee years must end (and their corresponding blog series, too) let’s continue to keep our eyes and ears and hands and hearts open to glimpses of Christ our only Hope, who does not disappoint!
And so, a final “glimpse” from here.
During the Office of Vigils on high feasts (like tomorrow’s Epiphany!), we chant the Te Deum.
In the darkness of night –
at the very end of a long canticle, nearly breathless but full of prayer –
we call out these holy words – a plea, a promise, a hope –
a gift yet to come, a gift already received…
