Hidden Gems
From the outside, monastic life might seem mundane. And in some sense it is – but in the best of ways.
Our “ordinary, obscure, and laborious” life, as our Order’s Constitutions describe it, simplifies not only our exterior environment but, by the grace of God, our interior environment, too. Less noise around us creates space for the Holy Spirit to speak within us. Less to see and swipe and scroll through opens our eyes to the Love that unceasingly surrounds us.
And then Christ, upon whom everything here hinges, does indeed, in all beauty and simplicity and hiddenness – pardon the paradoxicality! – “show up”.
Lately, He’s lavished us with all sorts hidden gems!

And as this post “goes to press”, we’re right in the middle of our Fall “Come & See” Retreat.
Please pray for us and for the wonderful women who have made the bold choice to leave behind – for a couple of days – all that the world offers, following the call of Jesus to “come” and “see” what gems of grace He wants to give them, here.
I will give you the treasures of darkness
and riches hidden in secret places,
so that you may know that it is I, the Lord,
the God of Israel, who call you by your name. (Isaiah 45:3)
